Von Ormy, Texas. Von Ormy is located thirteen miles from downtown San Antonio in southwestern Bexar County. The community, originally known as Medina Crossing, was settled after the Civil War.

In 1879 a post office was established and named Manns' Crossing for a family who operated the ferry. In 1886 the name was changed to Von Ormy in honor of Austrian nobleman Count Adolph von Ormy.

In 1914 the town had two grocers, a general store, a cotton gin, and a population of 350. In 1946 the population was still 350. Since that time the population has went up and down depending on the time, but it has been growing steadily in recent years. According to the current census and population reports, Von Ormy has 7,019 people and numerous businesses.

Despite more people moving into the area and the city getting bigger, the whole town makes sure to retain its small town appeal and remains active in community spirit and adding to the natural appeal of the area.
